What you'll do
- Set technical direction for backend platforms and AI systems.
- Lead complex AI and platform initiatives from concept through production.
- Design agent orchestration, routing, tool use, runtimes, sandboxing, and agent communication.
- Build reusable platform services, APIs, and infrastructure for engineering teams.
- Establish evaluation, monitoring, observability, and reliability practices for AI systems.
- Integrate agents with internal services and enterprise platforms.
- Work with customers on early deployments and incorporate feedback.
- Mentor engineers while remaining hands-on in design, coding, and delivery.
What we're looking for
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, including Staff-level scope.
- Substantial recent experience building generative AI or agentic systems.
- Track record leading complex AI, agentic, or platform initiatives into production.
- Deep Python and backend expertise, including distributed systems and data-intensive workflows.
- Experience owning shared services or infrastructure used by multiple engineering teams.
- Experience with production AI frameworks, evaluation, observability, and reliability.
- Experience with SQL, relational databases, Kubernetes or another containerized runtime, and SaaS.
- Strong technical leadership, communication, mentoring, and ownership of ambiguous problems.
Nice to have
- Experience architecting multi-agent platforms used across teams or products.
- Experience with vector search, hybrid retrieval, re-ranking, or RAG.
- Experience integrating AI agents with enterprise platforms.
- Experience with industrial, operational, or time-series data.
- Experience building products for technical or engineering-focused customers.
- Engineering background in mechanical, chemical, process, or a related discipline.
