Android Engineer, Identity

About this role

Build and maintain Stripe Identity’s mobile SDKs and identity-verification experiences, including document and selfie capture. The role combines Android engineering with cross-platform collaboration, SDK/API design, and end-to-end work across mobile clients and backend services.

What you'll do

• Build and maintain mobile SDKs and identity-verification flows.
• Design polished document- and selfie-capture experiences for varied devices and conditions.
• Create reliable, extensible SDK APIs and reusable components for integrators.
• Deliver features across mobile clients, APIs, and services.
• Improve performance, reliability, observability, testing, release processes, and backward compatibility.
• Make architectural decisions that balance user and developer experience, security, privacy, and maintainability.
• Partner with product, design, machine-learning, backend, research, and mobile teams.
• Diagnose production issues and improve owned systems and SDKs.

What we're looking for

• 3+ years of professional software-development experience, including shipping mobile applications or SDKs.
• Experience developing for a major mobile platform, such as Android with Kotlin or Java.
• Strong software-design fundamentals and experience creating maintainable APIs, components, or frameworks.
• Experience integrating mobile functionality with APIs, services, local state, or device capabilities.
• Experience testing, debugging, monitoring, and improving production mobile software.
• Effective collaboration across technical and non-technical partners.
• Commitment to high-quality user and developer experiences.

Nice to have

• Experience building mobile SDKs, shared libraries, or developer-facing APIs.
• Experience with iOS and Android or cross-platform technologies such as React Native or Kotlin Multiplatform.
• Camera, image-processing, document-capture, biometric, or other device-integrated experience.
• Security and privacy experience with sensitive data.
• Familiarity with accessibility, internationalization, performance, and unreliable networks.
• Experience with mobile CI, automated testing, release automation, observability, or developer tooling.
• Backend API or service contributions supporting mobile products.
• Experience integrating Stripe APIs or SDKs.
