Community Engagement and Advocacy Manager

About this role

Own and grow Tailscale’s Insiders advocacy program, Discord and Reddit communities, and Community Projects program. Build relationships with community members, create meaningful ways for them to contribute, and help internal teams learn from community feedback and work.

What you'll do

• Develop and operate the Insiders advocacy program, including recruitment, onboarding, engagement, recognition, and impact tracking.
• Create opportunities for Insiders to contribute through speaking, content, events, feedback, and testing.
• Manage engagement and moderation across Discord and Reddit, including events, staff participation, volunteer moderators, and escalations.
• Run the Community Projects program, developing processes to discover, support, recognize, and showcase community-built projects.
• Share community feedback, conversations, and project insights with relevant internal teams.
• Coordinate with Developer Relations, Product, Engineering, Marketing, and Support.

What we're looking for

• 3–5+ years of experience in community management, advocacy, community programs, developer communities, or a related role.
• Experience owning and growing community programs and coordinating stakeholders.
• Strong relationship-building, written and verbal communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Experience managing and moderating online communities and maintaining inclusive environments.
• Strong organization and program management skills; able to manage priorities independently and navigate ambiguity.
• Curiosity about technology and eagerness to learn Tailscale’s products and community.

Nice to have

• Experience managing advocacy, ambassador, champion, or contributor recognition programs.
• Hands-on Discord, Reddit, or similar platform management, including moderation tools and automation.
• Experience with developer, open-source, infrastructure, networking, or security communities.
• Familiarity with community engagement tools such as Common Room.
• Experience running AMAs, virtual events, member spotlights, or other community programs.
• Ability and willingness to travel occasionally for community events and meetups.
