HR Consultant, Ask An Expert

About this role

Provide practical HR guidance to small-business clients through chat and live calls, using AI tools to research and draft responses while verifying their accuracy. Create employee handbooks and deliver compliance projects, while helping develop repeatable processes as the Ask an Expert service grows.

What you'll do

• Answer client HR questions via chat and calls with clear, accurate guidance
• Create and update multi-state employee handbooks and policies
• Deliver compliance projects, including policy reviews and required notices
• Escalate questions to other teams or recommend legal counsel when appropriate
• Document client work and flag recurring questions to improve tools and resources
• Help develop templates and processes for new project types
• Support the Gusto HR Partners team when additional capacity is needed

What we're looking for

• 4–8 years of HR experience as a generalist, People Operations specialist, or consultant
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Comfort using AI tools and checking generated answers for accuracy
• Proficiency with HR tools including Google Workspace, Slack, Notion, and Salesforce
• Experience managing incoming questions alongside project deadlines
• Working knowledge of multi-state employment law and compliance
• Hands-on experience writing or updating employee handbooks and policies
• Sound judgment, confidentiality, and comfort in fast-paced, ambiguous environments
