Regional Research Economist, Economic Research

About this role

Conduct empirical research on AI’s economic effects in South Korea and the broader region, including impacts on labor markets, productivity, and economic transformation. Extend the Anthropic Economic Index with regionally relevant analysis and translate findings into research and policy insights.

What you'll do

• Build relationships with regional academic, policy, industry, and civil-society partners
• Lead region-specific research collaborations and contribute to the Anthropic Economic Index
• Design empirical studies and new methods to measure AI’s economic impacts
• Work with technical teams to improve measurement infrastructure and data collection
• Communicate findings through publications, policy briefs, and presentations

What we're looking for

• PhD in Economics
• Strong empirical research record using novel data, economic theory, causal inference, or machine learning
• Experience working in the region and relevant professional relationships
• Proficiency in Python, R, SQL, or similar tools for large-scale analysis
• Ability to lead research projects from conception to publication
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills

Nice to have

• Research experience in AI’s economic effects, labor markets, productivity, or technological change
• Experience with novel datasets, measurement systems, or large language models for social science
• Experience in policy research, causal inference, macroeconomic modeling, forecasting, or simulation
• Interest in beneficial AI and critical engagement with AI systems
