Security Software Engineer

About this role

Help improve the security and privacy of Tailscale by building security features and fixes, auditing product features, and advising engineering teams. The role is hands-on, with at least half of the time spent writing software.

What you'll do

• Implement security and privacy improvements across the codebase
• Audit features for security weaknesses and drive mitigations to resolution
• Support engineering decisions with threat modeling and security analysis

What we're looking for

• Proficiency in at least one programming language and application platform
• Prior experience in a safety-related technical role, such as application security, penetration testing, threat modeling, UX research, or incident response
• Deep understanding of web application vulnerabilities, client-side security, and common API security flaws
• Knowledge of cryptographic primitives and protocols and common networking protocols
• Ability to collaborate with engineering teams on secure coding practices and guidance
• Work independently and collaboratively, adapt to startup dynamics, and balance security with practical solutions
