Senior Backend Engineer - Databases - Analytics

Build the database layer for Grafana Labs’ emerging general-purpose data platform. The role spans analytics and fresh-data workloads, with a focus on scalable, multi-tenant SaaS and reliable data access for AI-agent workflows.

Stack

What you'll do

• Design, implement, test, and operate database components such as ingestion, query planning, distributed execution, and storage formats.
• Build multi-tenant database services with tenant isolation, usage tracking, quotas, audit logs, and background jobs.
• Develop APIs and database interfaces for retrieval by AI agents, MCP tools, CLIs, and internal applications.
• Instrument and operate services using metrics, logs, traces, alerts, and dashboards.
• Shape architecture, service boundaries, storage choices, APIs, and deployment patterns.

What we're looking for

• Experience building production-grade software used by customers.
• Strong skills in a systems language such as Go, C++, or Rust.
• Experience with distributed systems, catalogs and table formats, and query engines.
• Cloud-native experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Familiarity with AI technologies and practical application of them.
• Ability to work autonomously, iterate quickly, and communicate effectively.

Nice to have

• Experience building distributed query engines.
• Experience building data warehouses or data lakes.
• Experience building data engineering tools.
