What you'll do

  • Build and maintain genomics and structural biology software, including libraries, tools, pipelines, datasets, and benchmarks.
  • Own testing, validation, benchmarking, documentation, packaging, and release readiness.
  • Maintain public releases by triaging issues, reviewing contributions, and managing breaking changes.
  • Represent the team at conferences, workshops, and in collaboration with researchers and maintainers.
  • Partner with computational and experimental scientists to make research code reusable.
  • Set technical direction, review code, mentor contributors, and potentially lead a small team.
  • Use AI coding agents and establish practices for validating agent-written code.

What we're looking for

  • Evidence of building, releasing, and maintaining biology software adopted by researchers outside your group.
  • Deep working expertise in genomics or structural biology, including relevant data types, formats, tools, and failure modes.
  • Proficiency in Python and experience with large datasets in Linux and cloud or cluster environments.
  • Strong testing and release engineering practices, including CI, reference-data validation, packaging, and versioning.
  • Regular use of AI coding tools and ability to verify code correctness and performance.
  • Experience leading a multi-contributor technical project while continuing to write code.
  • Clear written and spoken communication with biologists and engineers.

Nice to have

  • Expertise in both genomics and structural biology.
  • Creator or core maintainer of a widely used open-source computational biology tool.
  • Formal team leadership experience.
  • Graduate degree in computational biology, bioinformatics, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in Rust, C++, or C, and experience optimizing performance on large biological datasets.
  • Experience in other computational biology fields, such as phylogenetics, proteomics, cheminformatics, or high-throughput screen analysis.
  • Experience shipping AI-agent-built software, building LLM-based agentic systems, or training ML models on biological sequence or structure data.

Benefits

  • Flexible working hours
  • Generous vacation and parental leave
  • Optional equity donation matching
