What you'll do
- Lead, coach, hire, and develop engineers, including senior individual contributors.
- Own outcomes across provisioning, fleet management, failover, recovery, upgrades, observability, performance, and security.
- Set a multi-quarter roadmap based on customer and business needs.
- Guide architecture and support sound technical tradeoffs.
- Improve SLOs, on-call practices, incident response, maintenance, and automation.
- Work with customers and translate recurring issues into product improvements.
- Coordinate dependencies and risks across distributed teams.
What we're looking for
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years managing engineers in infrastructure, databases, or developer platforms.
- Experience building and operating a customer-facing stateful service with demanding availability, durability, security, and performance needs.
- Working knowledge of PostgreSQL or managed relational databases, including replication, recovery, upgrades, observability, or performance diagnosis.
- Technical credibility to engage deeply in architecture and incidents without owning daily implementation.
- A record of hiring, coaching, developing, and retaining engineers.
- Strong execution judgment, customer focus, Product partnership, communication, and distributed-team leadership.
Nice to have
- Leadership experience with managed PostgreSQL, relational databases, or cloud control planes.
- Depth in PostgreSQL internals, extensions, replication, storage, performance, or database reliability.
- Experience with cloud platforms, Kubernetes, infrastructure as code, or multi-region systems.
- Experience taking infrastructure from early adoption through general availability.
- Open-source, technical writing, speaking, startup, or founder experience.
