What you'll do
- Deliver search features and workflows across frontend and backend, from planning through production
- Build AI-powered product experiences and the services and interfaces behind them
- Improve search, indexing, and retrieval systems for large volumes of content
- Troubleshoot production issues and improve performance, reliability, and observability
- Participate in on-call and incident response
What we're looking for
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Experience independently delivering features across frontend and backend systems
- Proficiency in Python or a similar language and Django or a comparable web framework
- Experience with Vue.js or another modern JavaScript framework
- Experience with Elasticsearch or comparable search technology, or data-intensive systems
- Experience with TypeScript in a large codebase and design systems or shared component libraries
- Ability to adjust working hours to overlap with US time zones
Nice to have
- Experience with Kafka, relational databases, or asynchronous task-processing systems
- Experience building search, discovery, indexing, or information-retrieval features
- Experience with high-traffic SaaS or large-scale data systems
- Experience building customer-facing features backed by LLMs or other AI models
- Experience evaluating AI features through testing or user feedback
- Interest in journalism, news, media, or social media
