What you'll do
- Deliver search features and workflows across frontend and backend, from planning through production
- Build AI-powered product experiences, including supporting services and user interfaces
- Improve search, indexing, and retrieval systems for large-scale content discovery
- Troubleshoot production issues and improve performance, reliability, and observability
- Participate in on-call and incident response
What we're looking for
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Experience delivering features across frontend and backend systems
- Proficiency with Python or a similar language and Django or a comparable framework
- Experience with Vue.js or another modern JavaScript framework
- Experience with Elasticsearch or comparable search technology, or data-intensive systems
- Experience with TypeScript in a large codebase and design systems or shared component libraries
- Production troubleshooting and reliability experience
- Flexibility to overlap working hours with US time zones
Nice to have
- Experience with Kafka, relational databases, or Celery
- Background in search, discovery, indexing, or information retrieval
- Experience with high-traffic SaaS applications or large-scale data systems
- Experience building customer-facing features backed by LLMs or other AI models
- Experience evaluating AI features through testing or user feedback
- Interest in journalism, news, media, or social media
