Senior Software Engineer, Streaming Infrastructure

Build and operate large-scale systems that capture changes from Airbnb’s online databases and deliver them to offline data systems. Help shape a unified data movement platform, with a focus on reliability, performance, and ease of use for internal engineering teams.

Data Infrastructure organization, Data Movement & Transformation (DMT) group, Ingestion team.

Stack

What you'll do

• Design, build, test, and operate large-scale CDC and batch export systems.
• Contribute to the architecture of DMT’s unified data movement platform.
• Improve the reliability, performance, and efficiency of production systems.
• Partner with internal teams and customers to deliver multi-month projects.
• Participate in on-call and improve operational practices.

What we're looking for

• 5+ years building and operating large-scale backend distributed systems.
• Hands-on experience with streaming systems such as Kafka and database change capture, such as binlogs or Debezium.
• Ability to take ownership of and work deeply in a complex codebase.
• Experience debugging and maintaining production systems at scale.
• Write clean, testable, readable, and maintainable code.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and delivery skills in a remote-working environment.

Nice to have

• Experience with managed, multi-tenant platforms for engineering teams.
• Familiarity with MySQL or Aurora, schema evolution, or large-scale batch processing.
