What you'll do
- Set technical direction for EKS cluster provisioning, upgrades, node management, and teardown.
- Automate fleet operations with standardized infrastructure-as-code and self-service workflows.
- Own reliability of shared Kubernetes components and their CI/CD delivery.
- Define and automate workload safety standards, including resource configuration, isolation, disruption tolerance, and consolidation.
- Build observability, audits, and reporting to measure platform risks and improvements.
- Partner with workload teams on platform needs and drive cost and capacity strategy.
- Mentor engineers, participate in on-call, and support production incident response.
What we're looking for
- 10+ years in software or infrastructure engineering and 6+ years operating production Kubernetes at scale.
- Deep expertise in EKS and Kubernetes internals, including upgrades, scheduling, node lifecycle, and autoscaling.
- Strong AWS cloud-native architecture experience, including EC2, VPC, IAM, and EKS.
- Fluency in Terraform and GitOps or pipeline-driven delivery.
- Expert proficiency in Go or Python and experience building production-grade Kubernetes controllers, operators, and platform tooling.
- Experience enforcing platform standards through admission control, OPA/Gatekeeper, or equivalent.
- Strong cross-functional leadership, mentorship, and systems-thinking skills.
Nice to have
- Experience with Spacelift.
- Experience with ArgoCD, kube-applier, or similar GitOps tools.
- Experience with Karpenter or Cluster Autoscaler.
