About this role

Build and operate reliable, secure backend services that support Supabase’s AI products, including its MCP server. This is an infrastructure-focused engineering role covering production operations, authorization, observability, and agent-traffic reliability—not AI product development or an SRE role.

About the company

Supabase builds an open-source backend platform with Postgres, auth, storage, and realtime APIs. It helps developers launch production apps without managing custom infrastructure.

What you'll do

  • Build, deploy, scale, configure, and release production backend services for AI products.
  • Set and track reliability targets, SLOs, and error budgets with the SRE team.
  • Participate in on-call, respond to incidents, and maintain follow-ups and runbooks.
  • Design and operate OAuth apps, scoped tokens, and authorization for AI and agent clients.
  • Own service observability, including metrics, traces, logs, dashboards, and alerts.
  • Manage agent-traffic capacity, rate limits, cost controls, and degraded-dependency behavior.
  • Improve service architecture and contribute to AI Tooling code where reliability or security is affected.

What we're looking for

  • 5+ years building and operating production backend services, including on-call experience.
  • Strong TypeScript or Go skills and comfort working in the other language.
  • Experience designing APIs, including versioning, error handling, rate limiting, and backwards-compatible changes.
  • Working knowledge of OAuth, OIDC, JWT, and API authorization.
  • Good understanding of PostgreSQL and relational databases.
  • Experience with CI/CD, Docker, container deployments, and infrastructure as code.
  • Ability to debug distributed services using metrics, traces, and logs.
  • Clear written communication and ability to work asynchronously in a distributed team.

Nice to have

  • Experience with MCP, agent tooling, or traffic from AI agents and LLM clients.
  • Experience extracting a service from a larger codebase while maintaining client compatibility.
  • Experience with Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Logflare, or SLOs.
  • Open-source contributions to Node.js, Go, TypeScript, or API tooling.

Benefits

  • Company equity (ESOP).
  • WeWork membership or coworking allowance.
  • Tech allowance for work equipment.
  • Health insurance coverage for employees and partial coverage for dependents.
  • Annual company off-site.
  • Annual professional development allowance.
