Software Engineer - Storage

Build and improve Supabase’s scalable object storage service across the server, client libraries, CLI, CDN, and deployment infrastructure. The work spans upload and delivery performance, reliability, observability, APIs, and developer experience.

Stack

What you'll do

• Improve analytics buckets and storage for open file formats such as Iceberg and DuckLake
• Optimize assets for faster delivery to websites and mobile apps
• Expand the edge network to accelerate uploads and support automatic cache invalidation
• Improve storage server performance, observability, and reliability
• Build a fast, powerful storage explorer with the frontend team
• Improve APIs, client libraries, and CLI developer experience
• Resolve escalated support issues and address systemic platform problems

What we're looking for

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience running Node.js in production
• Experience with highly scalable distributed systems
• Comfort working across backend development and infrastructure deployment, monitoring, and scaling
• Familiarity with observability tools and performance tuning
• Production-grade PostgreSQL experience, including tuning and troubleshooting
• Ability to own projects end to end
• Empathy for developer experience

Nice to have

• Experience building developer tools
• Cloud infrastructure and containerization experience
• Experience operating large-scale file upload and download pipelines
• Practical CDN integration and optimization knowledge
• Image or video processing and codec experience
• Frontend ecosystem experience, such as React or Next.js
