About this role

Build and operate systems to detect and mitigate abuse, fraud, and illegal content across OpenRouter’s AI inference and payments platforms. The role spans automated detection, human review tooling, enforcement, analytics, and monitoring, with an emphasis on limiting false positives.

About the company

OpenRouter is a unified API that routes requests across large language model providers so developers can access, switch, and scale models without lock-in or complex multi-provider integrations.

What you'll do

  • Develop abuse and fraud detection systems across signup, payments, and platform usage.
  • Own the enforcement pipeline from detection through human review to applying restrictions.
  • Build investigation tools, case queues, evidence summaries, and alerting.
  • Implement content-safety and illegal-content detection on the inference path.
  • Investigate incidents and build analytics and monitoring to distinguish abuse from false positives.
  • Collaborate with data scientists on risk and abuse model features and training.
  • Set technical direction for abuse prevention as the platform grows.

What we're looking for

  • 4+ years building and operating production systems.
  • Proficiency with React, TypeScript, Next.js, and JavaScript runtimes.
  • Ability to query large event datasets with SQL and reason about precision, recall, and decision costs.
  • Sound judgment with incomplete evidence, discretion, and resilience when handling sensitive or disturbing content.
  • High agency, strong communication, and comfort in a fast-moving environment.
  • Experience or interest in adversarial problems and using AI coding agents in your workflow.

Nice to have

  • Experience with payments fraud, chargebacks, disputes, crypto payment risk, identity, or KYC systems.
  • Familiarity with LLM abuse such as jailbreaks, prompt injection, credential theft, and account farming.
  • Experience with analytical datastores or observability platforms.
  • Knowledge of hosted-AI reporting obligations and provider policy requirements.
  • OpenRouter experience or side projects in AI infrastructure or developer tooling.
