Staff Machine Learning Engineer - Risk

Lead the development and deployment of machine learning models and platforms for identity and risk at Gusto. Partner across product, engineering, design, and operations to protect users and their money, and monitor models throughout their lifecycle.

Stack

What you'll do

• Build and deploy models to identify, assess, and mitigate risk
• Research risk problems, develop models, and monitor their performance over time
• Partner with Identity and Risk stakeholders to solve cross-functional problems
• Develop scalable modeling frameworks and libraries, including LLM integrations
• Identify data-driven opportunities to improve products and risk management
• Present findings and recommendations to stakeholders

What we're looking for

• 8+ years conducting statistical analyses on large datasets, or a relevant quantitative graduate degree plus 5+ years in business
• Experience with credit risk or fraud risk modeling
• Experience with predictive modeling, anomaly detection, or ensemble methods
• Strong programming skills across analysis, model development, and deployment
• Clear communication with non-technical stakeholders
• Familiarity with machine learning, AI, and LLM applications

Nice to have

• Master’s or PhD in a quantitative field
• Fintech industry experience
• Natural language processing experience
