Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Recoveries)

About this role

Set technical direction for Affirm’s Recoveries platform and deliver systems that help recover charged-off loans while providing customers with flexible ways to resolve balances. The role focuses on scaling decisioning, expanding internationally, and improving data integrity, reconciliation, reliability, and compliance.

Stack

What you'll do

• Set year-long technical strategy and lead business-impacting projects.
• Drive cross-team initiatives for recovery strategies, customer experiences, and reliable financial and partner integrations.
• Define monitoring, testing, alerting, playbooks, and on-call practices for team operations.
• Establish engineering standards and mentor teammates.

What we're looking for

• 8+ years of software engineering experience.
• Experience designing, building, and launching scalable backend systems.
• Experience operating correctness-sensitive batch, asynchronous, or data-processing systems, including workflows, backfills, reconciliation, and failure handling.
• Ability to architect across complex systems and organizational boundaries, including backend services and customer-facing applications.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and experience collaborating across functions.
