About this role

Build managed compute capabilities for Temporal Cloud, making worker execution elastic, safe, observable, and multi-cloud. The role spans control-plane and data-plane systems, including autoscaling, isolation, cloud integrations, and production operations.

About the company

Temporal is a durable execution platform for running reliable workflows and long-running business processes. It helps engineering teams build fault-tolerant applications without custom state machines.

What you'll do

  • Design managed compute primitives and APIs that work across compute providers.
  • Build safe, predictable autoscaling systems for worker fleets.
  • Architect and operate services on the task-execution hot path.
  • Deliver cloud integrations, including IAM boundaries, credential handling, networking, and quota management.
  • Own SLOs, observability, load and failure testing, incident reviews, and service hardening.
  • Lead end-to-end delivery, including API design, rollout, compatibility, and maintenance.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship across teams.

What we're looking for

  • Significant experience building and operating distributed systems or multi-tenant platform services.
  • Strong systems fundamentals in concurrency, performance, reliability, and failure-mode analysis.
  • Experience shipping platform primitives such as APIs, control planes, or data planes.
  • Comfort owning SLOs, incident response, and on-call improvements.
  • Excellent written communication and technical trade-off judgment.

Nice to have

  • Experience with cloud compute platforms spanning servers, CPU/GPU resources, VMs, containers, and networking.
  • Experience extending Kubernetes with custom controllers and CRDs, and operating heterogeneous worker fleets.
  • Experience with IAM and security boundaries for cross-account execution.
  • Go experience.
