What you'll do
- Own service architecture, contracts, reliability, and production health.
- Handle on-call, SLAs, incident response, and root-cause fixes.
- Improve observability and service performance quarter over quarter.
- Use AI tools to understand the codebase and produce design docs, interface definitions, and runbooks.
- Lead AI-assisted implementation planning, review, and integration testing.
- Partner with engineers across the Americas and Europe on knowledge transfer.
- Help hire and shape the team responsible for the domain.
What we're looking for
- Typically 10+ years building and operating production software, including several years at staff level or equivalent.
- Hands-on experience with payments, banking, or other regulated financial systems.
- Experience owning on-call systems and improving them based on operational incidents.
- Track record of taking ownership of an unfamiliar, business-critical codebase.
- Daily experience with AI coding tools and sound judgment about their limitations.
- Strong distributed systems skills, including consistency, idempotency, and concurrency.
- Clear, reusable technical writing.
- Production experience with Java or a comparable backend language.
Nice to have
- Experience with ACH, RTP, FedNow, or open banking.
- Experience building an engineering hub or leading a major platform transition.
