Staff Software Engineer, UI Tooling

Lead the strategy, architecture, and development of Kyber, Airbnb’s prototyping and rapid-deployment platform. The platform supports thousands of internal users and helps non-technical builders create product feature prototypes.

The team

UI Tooling team within UI Foundation, responsible for tooling that connects Airbnb’s design system with design and engineering workflows.

What you'll do

• Set technical direction and make architectural decisions for Kyber.
• Rebuild Kyber on next-generation cloud platforms and scale its capabilities.
• Integrate Kyber with Airbnb’s prototyping workflows and product-development ecosystem.
• Write and review code, including work with AI coding agents, while promoting quality and reliability.
• Partner with Infrastructure, Product, Security, and Design on platform capabilities.
• Mentor engineers and provide technical guidance across the team.

What we're looking for

• 9+ years of industry experience, ideally in fast-paced environments.
• Track record delivering large-scale service-oriented systems.
• Broad full-stack skills across backend, frontend, mobile, APIs, and architecture.
• Experience building customer-facing products from concept through launch and iteration.
• Strong architecture skills in distributed services, APIs, data pipelines, algorithms, and integrations.
• Sound judgment balancing delivery speed, experimentation, scalability, and engineering quality.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills for cross-functional initiatives.
