What you'll do
- Support annual budgeting and quarterly reforecasts with department heads.
- Build driver-based operating budgets and headcount plans.
- Establish monthly budget-versus-actuals reporting and analyze variances.
- Maintain and improve the multi-year corporate financial model.
- Develop financial analysis for decisions such as marketing returns and international hiring.
- Use automation and modern data workflows to improve modeling, reporting, and scenario planning.
What we're looking for
- 4–8 years of experience, typically including investment banking, investment firm, or consulting experience and strategic finance or FP&A at a technology-enabled company.
- Strong financial modeling and spreadsheet analysis skills.
- Foundational SQL and Python or R skills, with an understanding of data extraction, analysis, and visualization.
- High ownership, self-confidence, low ego, and a practical approach to improving processes.
- Interest in Substack’s mission and the independent publishing industry.
Nice to have
- Experience with modern FP&A tools such as Adaptive, Aleph, Fintastic, Causal, or Cube.
- Experience with Looker or Power BI.
