Systems Engineer

About this role

Manage and improve Databento’s infrastructure fleet, spanning systems, networking, compute, and storage. Deploy and maintain reliable infrastructure for a market data platform, with on-call support and occasional data-center provisioning and delivery work.

What you'll do

• Configure systems and networks
• Deploy bare-metal and containerized applications
• Maintain large storage clusters
• Instrument performance measurement and alerts
• Improve systems automation and tooling
• Provide on-call support
• Coordinate bulk data delivery to customers and vendor partners
• Occasionally deliver physical infrastructure and provision systems

What we're looking for

• Strong Linux knowledge
• Experience with systems configuration and provisioning; PXE, Puppet, Ansible, or Terraform experience
• Understanding of RAID, LVM, filesystems, and distributed storage
• Basic networking knowledge, including OSI, IP protocols, switching, and routing
• Ability to code in Python and write shell scripts
• DevOps/GitOps mindset
• 5+ years of systems engineering or infrastructure experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field

Nice to have

• Experience with distributed storage such as Ceph
• Customer support experience and strong problem-solving skills
• Trading or fintech experience, or interest in learning fintech
• Database administration experience with MySQL, ClickHouse, or Redis
• Cloud engineering basics in AWS or GCP
• Experience with virtualization and compute workloads
• Systems and network tuning
• Monitoring and alerting experience
